BUGSIER - The History

Tug Boat BUGSIER 3 1953

     The BUGSIER 3 was built in 1952 as the third of a series of identical tugboats by  Schichau-Werft in Bremerhaven. The client was the "Velox  GmbH" and the operator "Bugsier- Bugsier and salvage AG", both from Hamburg. On January 21, 1953, the diesel tugboats run with the hull number 1648 from the stack. The Bugsier-Reederei took over the new building on 24 February the same year. Until 1967,  the ship was used as a tugboat with a few exceptions in  the port of Hamburg. In 1967 took place  a major conversion on the Schichau shipyard to make the ship fit for changed requirements. The BUGSIER 3 was somewhat broadened and extended her wheelhouse forward.

        In order to improve the maneuverability, the conventional rudder was replaced with a Kort nozzle. In addition, the installation of a fire water cannon and to required, powerful pumping equipment was carried out.

         On September 13, 1967, the Schichau shipyard handed over the tugboat
with a new look to the BugsierReederei who then stationed him in Brunsbüttel. For six years, remained the BUGSIER 3 there before they were laid through the Kiel Canal to Kiel. With the transfer took place on 27 July in 1973 renamed the "Bugsier 11". In KielHoltenau the ship ,for the last year and a half  , was located under the German flag.

           On February 26, 1975, the Bugsier shipping company sold the tugboat , due to the high requirements of a major European port operations barely enough covered. The buyer was the Iranian company Mehdi Karoon Shipping Co., headquartered in Khorramshar the Persian Gulf. For the transfer of former BUGSIER 3 was renamed "Rostam". The overpass will according to unconfirmed information in the summer of 1975 through the after eight years, wartime blocking straightreopened the Suez Canal to be done. Upon arrival the ship was renamed again and was named after a female member of the owner's family "Mahnaz Karoon". In Iran, have been made over the years more conversions. In the database of "World Shipping Register" the "Mahnaz Karoon" with the IMO number 6800177 and the Callsign EPUC however 2012 still recorded. Therefore, there are indications that former Hamburg tugs still exists almost 60 years after its launch.
